Dialogue with a preschooler

Prompted by Mama Kat’s Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop.

Capture what it’s like to spend a day or a moment talking with your kiddo.

Conversation # 1

Me: If you had another baby brother, what would you name him?

Preschooler: Spiderman. Or He-man. Or Batman.

Me: If you had a baby sister, what would you name her?

Preschooler: Lightbulb.

Me: Lightbulb?

Preschooler: Yeah. Lightbulb.

Me: Oh, ok.

Conversation # 2

Me: Time to go to bed. Tomorrow’s a big day (swimming lesson, birthday party, friends visiting).

Preschooler: Yeah, today was just a small day.

Me: Well, not really… ok. Love you. Goodnight.

(The Next Day)

Me: Good morning!

Preschooler: Mama, is today tomorrow? Cuz you said tomorrow is the big day.

Me: Um, sort if. Tomorrow transformed into today, and now today is today, and tomorrow will be tomorrow.

Preschooler: What about the big day?

Me: That’s today.

Preschooler: I thought you said it was tomorrow!

Love this! Ah the life of a parent. Always entertaining (when it’s not mind-numbing!) 🙂

  2. Lightbulb, I’m taking it under serious consideration.
